Update Privacy Restrictions

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. Cornell University Policy 4.5—Access to Student Information and the related Student Record Privacy Statement explain how FERPA is implemented at Cornell and it is important for you to be familiar with how this policy protects your educational records and directory information.

If you invoked FERPA while you attended Cornell it will remain on your record once you have graduated. To remove your FERPA restriction:

  • Login to Student Center using your NetID and password.
  • Use the drop down list at the bottom of the page under Personal Information and select Privacy Setting, then click the double arrow.
  • Select the Edit FERPA/Directory Restrictions button.
  • Remove the checkmark next to No Information Releasable.
  • Click Save. You should get a confirmation screen indicating the save was successful. Click OK.
