Prelim and Final Examination Schedules
NYS Education Law §224-A mandates that faculty make available an opportunity to make up any examination missed because of religious beliefs. In order to facilitate preparation of makeup exams, students intending to be absent in order to observe any of these holidays are requested to notify the instructor by the end of the first full week of classes.
Beginning with the Spring 2014 semester several aspects of the final exam schedule will change, including the dates when exams are held, how the schedule is created, when the schedule is released and when final grades are due.
Exams will begin at 9:00 am on the first day of exams, exams will be held on a weekend (Saturday and Sunday in spring; Saturday in fall) and a study day will occur in the middle of the exam period (Friday in fall; Sunday in spring.)
Final exam exception periods will be eliminated, multi-lecture classes requiring a single exam will be accommodated and final exams for foreign language classes will be scheduled throughout the exam period.
Final exams will be scheduled based on an algorithm that considers student’s enrollment rather than the class’ first lecture period. The final exam schedule will be published 7-10 days after the end of the add period, which occurs on the 15th calendar day of the term.
